I'm just wondering why the cost of dentistry in Australia is so expensive compared to the philippines, thialand etc?

My dentist here was not very supportive of me going overseas even though there is no way I can afford thr treatment he suggested. He says the materials they use are cheap and the trainning is not as good.

Hi Gabs

My dentist here was not very supportive of me going overseas

I'm not really surprised. Your dentist here is running a business and just like any other business he has wages, advertising and all the other overheads that go with running that business.  In my experience the Australian dental industry is very self serving and self protecting, and not above a bit of good old fashioned scare tactics.  Roll Eyes

As I said in another thread(safety), It all comes down to research. There are fabulous dentists overseas and there are average ones..Just like at home in Oz. I know this after spending years dentist hopping and experiencing what I call 'patch up dentistry'

There have been cases where sub-standard materials have been used but the better clinics, including Austalia, source their materials from Germany and the USA. The Philippines and I believe Thialand, also have good local product. Again, do your research.

I'm just wondering why the cost of dentistry in Australia is so expensive compared to the philippines, thialand etc?

Simply put SE Asia has a much cheaper cost of living compared to Australia so consequently. you get more bang for your buck.

Hope this has been helpful Gabs.

Hi Gabby

My own dentist gave me a real hard time when I told him I was thinking about going overseas for my dental work. He really scared me with all the talk of cheap materials, poor training etc. I think I asked David about a billion questions before deciding to go. It still took me six months to finally make the decision. In the end it was totally worth it and I love my new look. It cost me just under $7000 compared to $23,000 quoted here. The clinics dentists and staff are all girls and were just wonderful and really gentle.

BTW David the forum is a good idea, I hope it takes off and I shall help out when I can. I've already pointed some friends here.......well i get commission ?  Grin Grin

Hiya K , sorry I missed this post. It wasn't quite a billion questions  Grin
But in all seriousness I'm glad you researched as thoroughly as you did. I can answer questions all day long, it's part of my job. BTW your pics looked wonderful and I'm so glad you decided to go..I just know how nervous you were.

Hope you do come back and visit us. We seem to have alot of people looking but not too many joining. Oh well, hopefully it will pick up.
commission?..fat chance  Grin

Take care

In the U.S., the prices are also very high. It's due to the high cost of living and also the high price of malpractice insurance, doctors and dentists pay. The thing that I wish would happen is that it would be easier to shop around for the best price on dental treatments if dentists published their prices like every other product and service in the U.S. and most other parts of the world.
