Hi
I have been contemplating going to the Phillipines to have my teeth fixed for sometime.  After finding your forum and reading other peoples experiences it is giving me the courage to look into this further.  I was wandering when is the best time of the year to travel there and to enjoy an Island stay with some nice weather???
Any other helpful info I would love to read about.  I am a nervous dental patient at the best of times  Undecided
Thx
Cass.

Hi Cass,

From November -January  the weather is cooler and less humid. From February to June the weather is hot and humid. From July to October the weather is wet and sticky. Lovely eh  Grin

If you were coming to Manila then Boraquay is a wonderful Island getaway to explore during or after dental treatment.

Cass when you say. 'it is giving me the courage to look into this further.

What are your main concerns ?

Hi David
Thanks for replying so promptly.
I have been a General Practice Manager of very busy Private Medical Practices for over a period of 18 years throughout varied areas of Australia including rural remote areas. Over the last recent years I have taken many calls and seen evidence from patients who have had Asian medical treatments go badly wrong (mainly implants of the breasts and body surgery), therefore I have had some skepticism about it..... In particular in the Bangkok and Thailand areas.
I have done quite alot of research and  I am led to believe the Philippines has the state of the art laser technology to perform the procedures required. I am also led to believe they purchase the best products to perform the procedures required and have the ultimate sterilisation requirements. Do they meet the Australian Standards???
All of what I have mentioned has been reason of my concerns and any feed back I will take on board.
I would love to have a great smile. Even more if it can save me the dollars the Dentists here want to charge and include a holiday as well!!
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Regards,
Cass

Hi Cass,

Over the last recent years I have taken many calls and seen evidence from patients who have had Asian medical treatments go badly wrong (mainly implants of the breasts and body surgery), therefore I have had some skepticism about it..... In particular in the Bangkok and Thailand areas."

Yes this is a concern and not just in Asia. There are many examples of botched cosmetic surgery in Australia as well. This also applies to dental work. Of which, I have first hand examples.

I cannot stress enough to clients to do their research. As you are doing. No Matter what country you reside, in the end it comes down to the skill and experience of your dentist and the materials he uses.

Unfortunately copies of German,Swiss, and USA made materials have surfaced in the Philippines as well as Thialand. When a clinic is selling and advertising  Porcelain Crowns etc for the same price as we're buying them, we know what's going on.  Copies of Dental Implants have also surfaced from Nth Korea.

Another point I like to stress is please allow the time for the procedure to be completed to a professional standard. Some people have an unrealistic expectation of how long some dental work can take.

Implants should take a minimum of three weeks to complete. A full resoration using crowns, bridges, Root canals, and some fillings should take between three to four weeks.

A recent inquiry had someone wanting twenty crowns done in a week. Which is just plain ridiculous. I quoted three weeks and of coarse he went somewhere else. Unfortunately he will find a dentist in Asia willing to do it and when he comes home unhappy with the result he will tell everyone how awful it was and that they botched the job.

Yes we meet Australian standards and use the Autoclave Sterilisation system. Infection control is almost an obsession by the staff.

Please keep popping back and feel free to post and raise concerns etc.

David

Hi David

Thanks for your interesting feedback.

I am definitely interested in getting a quote for the work I would require and to have some idea of how long I will need to spend in the Philippines to have the most professional work performed.

What steps do you recommend I take from here for you to have the best details to receive the most accurate quote?

I have spoken with Sarah at Flight Centre yesterday and she is mailing me some travel package information which I am looking forward to receiving and pondering over. Smiley

Thx
Cass.
